Growing Up Skills

PSHE and Global Citizenship is a popular regular weekly lesson taught as part of our Growing Up Skills programme called GUS. Dobcroft Junior School is a Leading School in Sheffield Local Authority for PSHE, SEAL (Social and Emotional Aspects of Learning) and P4C (Philosophy For Children).

More than this, Dobcroft Junior has PSHE embedded in the ethos of the whole school through our Values and Mottos, assembly scheme, pupil participation projects and Behaviour and other policies.

Pupil Voice is strong in our school with a large representative school council body called the Pupils' Parliament which meets fortnightly.  PP oversees the work of The QuarrelBuster Playground Care Team and the Pupil JobSquad which includes organisation of the Healthy Tuck Shop.

GUS lessons include the use of materials from the SEAL programme and also incorporate learning about responsible Global Citizenship, SRE (Sex and Relationship Education) and Drug Education.  Some of the SRE is included in the Science curriculum. Year Groups 4, 5 and 6 include much of this work in a focus week called 'Changes' which highlights our own responsibilities in looking after ourselves and others.
