Reading Volunteers

We welcome parent volunteers into class sometimes to read with children. Please see your child's class teacher.

We are also part of an exciting project which sees trained parent Reading Volunteers give regular programmed reading support to individual children through the Reading Matters scheme.  Parents commit to a year of focused support and then receive a 2 day training which enables them to plan a programme of reading development to support reading and comprehension skills. Volunteers work individually with 2 children with each child receiving 2 x 1/2 hr sessions each week. Each programme lasts 10 weeks.  Reading Volunteers can gain credits towards an NVQ by completeing the programme of support and noting progress made.  This is an extremely valuable programme which we hope to build on.
There is tremendous benefit to the children in boosting confidence and skills. Our Reading Volunteers have also become trained SATs readers helping more vulnerable children access the formal assessments in school.  This also a tremendous boost and valuable help to the children and staff.

If you would like to hear more about Reading Volunteers and maybe join the team when funding is available please see Mrs. Cuttill.
