We are keen supporters of the Make Poverty History campaign looking at the work of Send My Friend, UNICEF, Save the Children, Foodaid and Oxfam.

In 2005 we joined thousands of school children and sent our paper 'buddies' to the politicians at the G8 summit held in Edinburgh.  Each pupil made a friend and wrote on the back a reasoned plea to show our understanding of how important it is for every child to have an education wherever they live. Our work in assemblies and in GUS (Growing Up Skills) on Human Rights and the Rights of the Child (UNICEF) remind us all of the need to stand up and fight for what we believe to be right.

In 2006 every child made a paper teacher and these were collected at school by Nick Clegg our local MP who took the teachers back to Tony Blair at 10 Downing Street.  Mrs. Douglas' class Y5DH performed an assembly for Nick reinforcing our message about the importance of education for all children including those who live in developing countries.  Nick spoke about the importance of making our voices heard and of his interest, support and experience in making a difference for needy children.  We later received a letter from Tony Blair speaking of the importance of speaking out to the governments of the world and outlining some of the promises made.

In 2007, we are supported the "Join Up - Send a Friend" campaign and our linked friends were sent to the German Chancellor, Angela Merkel who led the G8 summit and the European Union.  These groups are very powerful, and make lots of decisions about things happening around the world.  Check out the website to read more about it!  We believe tthat every child has a right to education and should have the opportunity to attend school. To show our human chain of support we joined with the whole Infant School and linked hands on the school field.

In 2008 we joined the Biggest Lesson in the World on 23rd April as part of the Send My Friend Campaign and sentpostcards depicting the importance of world-wide education to Gordon Brown before he attends the G8 summit.  Go to the Send My Friend Website.

"I CAN make a difference. Together we CAN make a difference!"

At our Harvest festival each year we focus on a local group who provide food and clothing to homeless people - the "Sheffield Soup Wagon". We have had connections with this group for 5 years. In the past 2 years we have also given our gifts to Foodaid who organise both emergency relief and sustainable development programmes in developing countries.

We joined the Blue Peter/UNICEF Shoebiz appeal and collected 260 pairs of shoes which will be used to raise funds to provide Children's Corners in Malawi where large numbers of children are homeless and parentless as a result of the devastating AIDs epidemic.

Oxfam runs a great global citizenship website for children, parents and teachers called Cool Planet. Check it out :)
